President Message
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women.
On February 14, 1942, Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered by eighteen (18) astute and innovative women. Since that time, Gamma Xi Omega has initiated and implemented many programs of service to the Charleston Community. Service projects have been in the areas of education, health, human resources/services, political and social action, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention and youth leadership.
In February, 2012, Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. comprised of a nucleus of 200 plus members will begin to celebrate 70 years of service to the Charleston community.
As we stand on the shoulders of a membership comprised of distinguished women, we invite you to join us as we reflect and celebrate our notable membership, rich history and involved community service through advocacy and service. Our future is promising because we stand on the shoulders of many great women who have completed work of real value to the Charleston community , the state of South Carolina, the South Atlantic Region (comprising the states of South Carolina, Florida and Georgia; the largest region in Alpha Kappa Alpha), and to the national/ International organization.
Again, welcome to our website and please call upon us should you desire further information.
Yours truly,
Kimberly Greene, President
